Welcome to Quantity Surveying and Construction Procurement
Assalamualaikum and dear all,
This blog compliments teaching and learning for courses that I facilitate at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The contents serve to further 'connect' students to the 'real world' (quantity surveying, construction procurement and others). In trying to provide current information to students, I will be quoting or reproducing works of others and for this I am grateful. I will indicate clearly the source(s). I hope I will not offend anyone; and many will frequent this blog and benefit from its contents.
Thank you and wassalam.

Readings on the Proposed Kuala Lumpur MRT Project 1
Salam and dear all,
- The Star, 5th March 2011, published a series of articles discussing the proposed Kuala Lumpur MRT project.
- The articles shed lights on various aspects and highlight concerns and controversies related to the proposed project including:
- The project involves the construction of 150km line complete with stations, etc.
- The latest estimate for the project is RM50b.
- The project's client is the government of Malaysia. The government funds the project, parked under the Ministry of Finance, through a SPV to be formed soon.
- The project owner is a government owned company Prasarana. Prasarana and the project's initial proposer - MMC & Gamuda JV Sdn Bhd - have been appointed the Project Development Partner or PDP.
- The project will be monitored by the newly formed Land Public Transport Commission or SPAD.
- Here goes the first article (as in the Star, 5th March 2011). Many thanks to The Star.
- MRT project cost now estimated to reach RM50b
