Welcome to Quantity Surveying and Construction Procurement
Assalamualaikum and dear all,
This blog compliments teaching and learning for courses that I facilitate at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The contents serve to further 'connect' students to the 'real world' (quantity surveying, construction procurement and others). In trying to provide current information to students, I will be quoting or reproducing works of others and for this I am grateful. I will indicate clearly the source(s). I hope I will not offend anyone; and many will frequent this blog and benefit from its contents.
Thank you and wassalam.

PFI: points to ponder by policy makers
Salam and dear all,
An article Uncovering the true costs of PFI by Allyson Pollock, published by the Guardian on Wednesday 23rd September 2009 highlights interesting facts about the way in which PFI is being practiced in the UK. Among others:
1. PFI is the dominant form of procurement of new roads, waste facilities, hospitals and schools,
2. PFI accounts for some GBP63.5bn worth of works,
3. PFI tenders are characterized by lack of competition, with small number of large firms,
4. Rigging of bids or cover pricing happens.
