Positive outlook for the construction industry in 2011

Salam and dear all, Happy new year.

1. Government initiatives especially those under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) that focuses on 12 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs), the RM36b MRT project due to start in July 2011 and projects to be implemented under the 10th Malaysia Plan (2011-2015) suggest that 2011 is going to be a busy year for the Malaysian construction industry.
2. However, problems such as shortage of construction skilled workers and the near total reliance on labour intensive construction techniques continue to constraint the development of the construction industry.

6 Principles to make PPP successful - Nor Mohamed

Salam and dear all, Utusan Malaysia (23rd Nov. 2010) reported that Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Tan Sri, a Minister in the PM's Department made the following statements in relation to the implementation of PPP in Malaysia... Malaysia would be using PPP as among the key investment platform in effort to promote some RM150 million in spending over the next 10 years. He claimed that such spending is required to sustain a 6% growth in the economy up to 2020. He listed 6 principles to make PPP successful;

• High commitment by the government in implementing PPP projects
• Creating conducive and supportive environments to implement PPP projects
• Selecting capable private sector entity with the necessary financial capability
• Capacity building in human resource
• Financially capable to implement projects on longer term basis
• Work ethics between the public and private sectors.
